Face off! Yuuko keeps Watanuki, and Syaoran stands by FWR. Watanuki, they say, because he is a being born by the distortion of time, will bring misfortune to those around him, including his parents. But, even so, Yuuko says, his future is not set in stone.

She’ll also interfere as much as she can, so that FWR’s wish – to bring back a lost life – will not be granted. He won’t be able to do it, not even Clow Reed was able to do it. But he’s determined. No matter what the price, he will grant that wish. I think, here, they both look a little sad.

Then he says that he’ll be taking Syaoran’s price now, his time, and freedom. But as he reaches out to Watanuki – one become two – Yuuko stops him, saying that though he may take Syaoran’s “time” and “freedom” this child, Watanuki, is not his. He will not lay hands on Watanuki.

He’ll leave it, then. Watanuki resembles Clow when he was young, he remarks. But as for Syaoran, if Syaoran won’t do what FWR wants, he’ll simply make another one of him. And even though Syaoran cries out for him to stop it, FWR notes that it’s no different from what Syaoran has done – violate a taboo to grant a wish.

And with that, he gathers up Syaoran and begins to disappear.

But he’s not done. A child brought about by distortion, one who will bring misery to those around them, to his parents. Yuuko covers his ears. And as long as he does not disappear, neither will this distortion.

Syaoran, though he is leaving with FWR, reaches out a desperate hand to Watanuki. “Don’t disappear!” he screams. And then they are gone

We didn’t learn much more this chapter, except that if Watanuki were to have died, or rather, ‘disappeared’, the time distortion would likely have become undone. FWR constructed this plan in order to obtain Syaoran, by first placing the seal on Sakura, so that he would have a Syaoran to control – now we know where the clone comes from.

Very much a “bridge” chapter – what will happen next?
